1. About LFS
Live for Speed is a car racing simulator. It is currently at a Demo Test stage, and is free to download and free to play online. It also has no publisher, meaning that the developers have total control and freedom.
A small development team - Scawen Roberts, Eric Bailey and Victor van Vlaardingen.
www.liveforspeed.net - You can also see screenshots here.
LFS is very good, and is likely to become the best racing simulation to date. Superb physics give "realistic" handling and superb netcode gives excellent online racing. More than that, LFS offers the chance to join a community with a very close relationship to the developers. Many of the features you see in the the current patch were suggested by forum members.
Release 1 info:
See http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50991 or http://www.liveforspeed.net/content/release.htm.
Not set exactly yet but a bit cheaper than a comparable boxed simulator bought in a shop. Each 25% update is one-quarter of that price.
Full damage, graphical and sound effects - just not all done by the first 25% version or the 50% version. The program will be continually updated while all the new tracks and cars are completed and released as well. why? - if we waited until everything is finished in the program then there is a very long wait before anyone gets to try another car or track.
Current plans for Release 1 include various classes of saloon cars (from rally to GT). Later packs will include buggies, karts and single seaters.
Yes - there are several city and country tracks in development.
Credit card online, cheque in the post, bank-to-bank transfer and whatever good methods there are. In addition there may be some people who wish to make only one payment in advance and we will allow this option as well with a username and password system that will be issued to every player who chooses to go beyond the demo test.
The seperate releases will be available to download, so location will not be an issue.
No - "our plan is to maintain our independance for total freedom".
2. The game
You will have to earn enough credits to first be able to drive the normal RWD and with more points the Turbo.
You will receive points depending on race results. For winning a race against AI's or on-line players you will get points, but you will also receive points for becoming second or third. Also winning from 4 AI's or online players will give you more points than winning from just one competitor. All this is also depending on your AI-difficulty level. PRO will give you the most points.
Well, this is a Demo Test. The LFS devs are just 3 guys, we are their beta testers. They have no need to release more cars/tracks because most bugs are not car/track specific, they are game engine specific. Although we would like more cars etc., it would be counter productive for them to release more, it might reduce sales in the long run. Remember they need to make a living too.

Yes, see http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51707
No - the devlopers have created their own engine sound system (not yet finished).

Please read the thread called "If you have a bug report" in the Bug Reports section of this forum. Then post your problem there. Give as much information as possible.
3. Technical
The minimum recommended spec is 600Mhz with a recent graphics card, but it may run on lower spec PCs than that, so try it and see.
Pretty much any wheel you can think of. Manual clutch and shifter support is planned but not implemented yet. You can also drive with a mouse or keyboard.
The default TCP port is 63392, however in v0.2 server admins can select different ports to run their servers on, so that one computer can run more than one LFS server.
Yes, shifters and clutches are now supported. See the options pages to set them up.
4. Community
Yes, on irc.gamesnet.net channel #liveforspeed. Also, CRC has a channel at #crclub on the same server.

Use the search function at the bottom of the main LFS forum, this will probably answer your question. If you still can't find the answer, and it is a fairly simple question, post in The Unofficial FAQ thread - when someone replies, your Q and A will be added to the FAQ.
